Image of the Day

Ok, I am starting a new kind of "regular" post on the blog - a photo of the day. Just a collection of amazing images that have captured my heart, made me feel, or made me think. And I think, we will start with this one...

From www.fromme-toyou.tumblr.com
I love the perspective of this shot - the way it makes the buildings seem so massive, dwarfing everything below them and making the street seem so narrow, as if the buildings are towering over it in an imposing way. Plus, the one pop of bright yellow color from the taxi cab is a nice touch.

And because its the first one of these posts and I am having trouble making decisions tonight, I am going to show a few more!

From www.sunsurfer.tumblr.com
I don't know if this has been Photoshop-ed or not, it would be pretty amazing, if not. Check out the insane reflection of the sunset in the bubble. Real or fake?

Simply because two of my dearest friends in the world are about to have their first babies - and this makes me think of them and the little miracles they are about to introduce to the world!

Barefoot. Reminds me of summer - feeling the hot pavement or deck under bare feet, and I could use some of that this rainy week. Plus, there is something so graceful and elegant about her feet.

Style Icon: Olivia Palermo

One of my style icons is Olivia Palermo. Honestly, when she was on The City, I couldn't stand her - she made me crazy annoyed - all the time. But there is no denying, the girl has great style. I literally don't think I've ever seen her in something that hasn't made me swoon in total and utter fashion envy. Her style is so perfectly New York chic - lots of black, lots of well-tailored pieces, amazing bags and she even manages to combine pieces you would never think of together to make totally unique but wearable outfits. Not to mention, her hair. I would die for that hair.

I love the look on the right - all black and trendy, but with just a pop of white. I also love the tights under the shorts combination. Not sure I could pull it off, but its fierce! The look on the right is so ladylike and sophisticated and the belt is such the perfect finishing touch.

In the image on the left, I love that she is once again rocking the tights under shorts look. And that sweater - AHHHMAZING. The second outfit is so simple and really not anything fancy, but it looks great for a weekend walking around Soho shopping - and I love how her bags are always so structured. Finally, what is more chic than a white button down dress shirt? Combined with a big statement necklace and a pair of Wayfarers, you've got fashionable down, cold.

These three outfits, to me, are the perfect embodiment of casual, comfortable and chic. A blazer with skinny jeans is a great option for so many things - a date, a tweet-up, a meeting with clients, love it.

I love the idea of wearing shorts in a dressy way for an event. Paired with the booties, its a stylish way to do "going out" clothes in a different way, for a chance. And the green dress? Well, I just have a massive crush on that shade of green.

Again, lots of black, but it's definitely not boring! The short sleeve coat with a long sleeve shirt worn underneath it is a great idea and way to play with proportions - plus, Chanel flats? Win. Now if only I could pull of leather leggings...

There are plenty of pictures out there in the blogosphere of Olivia and her boyfriend, and although I am pretty sure they don't purposely coordinate their outfits, they also look in sync and their styles seem to complement each other. Love the ruffled jacket!

The look on the left is one of my all-time favorites. A vest, belted over a dress - I never would have thought to put those together, but it looks awesome. On the right, I love her skinny suit- she manages to make it look so feminine when it could look too masculine. Perfect tailoring and super high heels make it work.

Can't say I'm a fan of the girl on TV, but I am definitely a huge fan or her style and fashion choices.

Neon Pink Lips for Spring

One of my favorite makeup trends for Spring is the bright, neon pink lip - especially when its a matte neon pink lip. While I am not sure I could pull of this look myself, I love it none the less - its so fresh and vibrant! I might just have to try it after all.

Want It, Need It, Have to Have It

I am currently swooning over these - my latest finds. In my dream world, I would be adding them to my closet and collections immediately, but for now, I am content to day dream about how fabulous these items would be in my life.

I would love to own a signet ring and this one from Eliza Page is perfectly dainty and classic. It seems like one of those classic pieces that you could pass down in a family for generations. I like my jewelry to mean something!

I am madly in love with this hot pink Nixon throw from Jonathan Adler. How chic and glamorous would this look in your living room? Heavenly!

I love this idea for blush application, and the rosy pink color is perfect for spring.

How great is this poster from Max Dalton? Any true Beatles fan needs this poster chronicling the band's change over the ten years they were together. This needs to be framed and on my wall.
I die for this bag from Marc by Marc Jacobs. Clearly, because its pink, but its just so bright and vibrant, it would bring spring to Seattle, and my life, just a little bit earlier than usual.

These stunners from Kenneth Jay Lane are my dream earrings for summer - imagine how lovely they would look against tanned, sun-kissed skin. They are so lovely on their own, all you need to wear with them is a perfectly fitted white tank and long beachy waves in your hair.

Speaking of my dream earrings for summer, these are my dream shoes. I am a sucker for a good platform wedge and I love the natural color and fabric of these sandals from Lilly Pulitzer

I adore this swirly twirly skirt from Milly. The colors and pattern are so retro-feeling to me and I love the length and the pleats. Swoon!

Ok, so these bookends from Pottery Barn are technically for a kid's room, but I think they are completely charming. I have a passion for books and reading, and these bookends seem to sum up my philosophy beautifully.

This last one, a perfectly dreamy mug from Tiffany, may be my favorite. It would be like having breakfast at Tiffany's in my kitchen every morning. Besides, who can resist the color of anything in Tiffany blue? I can't!

Currently Obsessed With...Purple!

I am currently obsessed with the color purple - in every shade, I am just drawn to it recently. Everything I am majorly swooning over seems to be some shade of this regal color. I chalk it up to my intense and undying love for the Washington Huskies basketball team - they just won the Pac-10 Championship and are on their way to the NCAA Tournament and I couldn't be more proud. It must just be my Husky pride shining through!

Spring Trends

The spring trends are beginning to hit the shelves, and they're heavy on Seventies style this year. From wide-leg and flared jeans to platform wedges and maxi skirts and dresses, hippie-chic is back! Imagine Bianca Jagger at Studio 54 in a silky maxi dress with kimono sleeves, or Ali McGraw with over-sized sunglasses, a large-brimmed brown felt hat and high-rise, wide-leg jeans - you can make it glamorous or boho, and be perfectly on trend with the styles that came down the runways a few months ago.

Here are some of my picks for spring...the ones I want to add to my closet...pronto. First and foremost, the maxi-dress!

Left to Right: Rory Beca, Winter Kate and Bec & Bridge, images courtesy of www.shopbop.com.
Bold patterns and bright colors are popular in maxi dresses this season, and I am totally on board. At first, I didn't think I could pull off a maxi dress, but its all about getting one with the right fit. The length should just brush the tops of your toes if you're going super long. I love the empire waist and bright pattern on the Rory Beca dress, and would accessorize the Bec & Bridge dress with a wide leather belt.

Left to Right: Free People and Mink Pink, images courtesy of www.shopbop.com.
I love the boho-chic feel of a floral maxi dress too - and these designs are especially charming and fun, with short hem in front and the long hem in the back. Flowy and girly!

Left to Right: Under Ligne by Doo.Ri and Rachel Pally, images courtesy of www.shopbop.com.
If you aren't super confident that the maxi-dress is for you, an option is to go simple and clean with a jersey dress in one color. This cream one from Rachel Pally has a gorgeous Grecian-goddess feel to it - imagine how amazing it would look against bronzed skin and turquoise accents!

Right in line with the maxi dress, is the maxi skirt - another of my favorite picks for spring this year.

From Left to Right: Tory Burch, Ella Moss and Haute Hippie, images courtesy of www.shopbop.com.
I love the boho feel of this Tory Burch skirt - paired with a simple white tank and gold jewelry, it would be stunning! The pretty pink melon skirt from Haute Hippie would be easy to dress up with its flared bottom and silky texture.

Left to Right: Ella Moss. DaftBird, Ella Moss and James Perse, images courtesy of www.shopbop.com.
Or, go simple and clean with one of these designs. They look so comfortable and easy to throw on, I could imagine wearing one every single day. The basic colors would provide for endless mixing and matching.

Of course, with all of these skirts, a girl is going to need some shoes...flat sandals to keep it casual and platform wedges (the taller the better, I say!) to dress it up, here are some of my favorites.

Left to Right: Gucci, Alexander McQueen and Belle by Sigerson Morrison, images courtesy of net-a-porter.com.

Kors by Michael Kors and Sergio Rossi, images courtesy of www.shopbop.com.

In true Seventies form, the clog is also back this season. While I am not a fan of a regular clog, the new wedge and high-heel, sling-back versions have me drooling!

Tory Burch and See by Chloe, images courtesy of www.shopbop.com.
Don't forget to accessorize your look with pieces like big over-sized sunglasses, colorful Pucci-like scarves, big cocktail rings, long delicate necklaces and perhaps a suede bag or unstructured tote.

Left to Right: Yves Saint Laurent cork wedges, Vanessa Bruno tote, Missoni wedges, Meli Melo bucket bag, images courtesy of www.net-a-porter.com.

Those are just some of my Seventies-inspired picks for spring - trust me, there is more to come!

I Need This: An Indoor Slide

After a week in Orlando with family, visiting theme parks and riding roller coasters, I realized I truly am still a kid at heart - and hope to always be. There is a time and a place for everything, of course, but its important to have fun in life and to find the joy and silliness in every day, ordinary things.

Like the way in which your home is designed, for example. When I was younger, a friend and I used to draw our dream houses that we would have when we grew up. Fantasy homes complete with underground tunnels, helicopter landing pads on the roof, walls made of candy, and anything else a child's mind can conceive of as a decorating plan. These plans always inevitably involved a slide - usually a twisty one - somewhere in the house - usually in place of stairs.

I had forgotten about my childhood dreams of having giant slides in my house until I started to run across actual homes designed with slides indoors...a completely brilliant idea if you ask me. Whether you have kids or not...

www.idale.co.za
Couldn't you imagine how delightful it would be to just slide down lazily on your bottom instead of trudging down the stairs wobbly and sleepy in the mornings? Or if you are in a hurry, getting out of the house, get a running start and shoot down the slide and out the door.

www.ohdeedoh.com
That's what I'm talkin' about! This would bring some fun and excitement to your daily routine, no?

www.dornob.com
I love how this slide is accessed through a hole in the floor - what fun! Seriously, I wouldn't even need kids to get slides in my house, if I could. I would be an out and proud "sliding adult".

Macaron Love

I've got a crush....on a cookie. Not just any cookie, but a French cookie. The Macaron. These little darlings are as lovely as they are delicious, and I just can't get enough of them. They come in so many colors and shades, and are so pretty to look at, I almost (almost!) don't want to eat them. Enjoy this little collection of to-die-for macarons.
