Fall Color Trends - Jewel Tones

Image via National Geographic
Summer is drawing to a close, and fall clothing is starting to fill up the stores and magazines, and I've noticed that the rich, jewel tones are definitely in this season. In fact, the colors on the fall runways seem to mirror the colors of nature and autumn leaves themselves. From deep emerald and jade greens to mustard yellows and ruby reds - and everything in between. Jewel tones in general are big this season, but marigold, emerald and ruby red are definitely the number one picks.

I have to say, one of my favorite ways I've seen this color worn is as a warm wool coat - like Taylor Swift's, below. It's just such a bright and bold color for a season that can be so gray and dark - especially here in Seattle.

Frankly, I am a little intimidated by wearing such a bold yellow color like marigold or mustard, but done the right way, anyone can pull this color off. If its not the best shade on you, avoid sweaters and tops that are near your face and try a cute skirt or pair of earrings. It's also a great when matched with gray - a very chic and modern combination.

The emerald trend first started popping up a few months ago on starlets on the red carpet at the Golden Globes, and its still going strong. It's a great color for a top or dress for an evening out this fall.

Maxi skirts are still in for fall, so think about getting one in this rich color - it will definitely liven up your wardrobe. If you are feeling particularly gutsy and fashion forward this fall, think about doing fur in this color - fur is another huge trend for the upcoming season!

As for me, I want to wear these Oscar de la Renta earrings - I can't take my eyes off of them. I am also thinking about trying out the green Essie nail polish in "Going Incognito".

Ruby Red

Gucci, Dolce and Gabbana, Monique Lhullier and Prabal Gurung
Red has always been a popular color for fall and winter seasons, but I've seen more of it on the fall runways this year than ever before. If I had to pick one major color for the season, this would be it!

Is there any combination more chic and ladylike than red and black? A red coat is a fall and winter wardrobe staple that I have got to get my hands on this year.

Another piece I'd love to get my hands on? This glittery red pouch from Marni - j'adore!

Which color is your favorite? Will you wear all of them this fall?

Red White and Blue: Happy Independence Day!

I am so ready for the 4th of July to be here, already. One more day and then it's time for a three-day weekend, and I cannot wait for fireworks, hotdogs, hamburgers, and plenty of laughs with my friends and family. I've been perusing all things red white and blue on Pinterest all week, and just had to share my inspirations for Independence Day with you!

Heart Sparklers: Treats for Chicks, Voila Lighter: Collette, Dress: Milly, Scarf: Vintage Chanel, Striped Tote: Diane Von Furstenbrg, Red Sunglasses: Lacoste, Blue Sequin Vest: Isabel Marant, Heart Headband: Ban.Do, Red Clogs: Swedish Hasbeens, Fortune Cookie: Unknown, Lollipop: Unknown, Nail Polish: Essie
I have my eye on that sequined vest from Isabel Marant - it is calling to me...loudly! And heart sparklers? There is nothing more perfect for me on the 4th of July than heart shaped sparklers.

Swimsuit: Aubin and Wills, Striped Tank: Splendid, Red Shorts: Current Elliott, Heart T-Shirt: A.P.C., American Flag Tank: TopShop, Striped Sweater: Diane Von Furstenberg, Lips Clutch: Lulu Guinness
Because its Seattle and almost every 4th of July, ever, has been rainy and gray here, I would be wearing those faded red shorts with the Diane Von Furstenberg sweater - perfectly preppy and All-American.

And finally, if you need some more outfit inspiration for Monday, have a look at these lovely ladies who did red white and blue, so well. So well, its making me consider wearing this combination of colors on more than just the 4th of July!

Are you going to be sporting red, white and blue on Monday?
